Here are some tips on developing a research topic:

1) What have you been learning in class? What do you already know? List it out.

2) What topic interests you the most out of that class? Pick one to write about.

3) Do some preliminary research to get an overall sense of the topic. You can browse Wikipedia for this.

4) Narrow down your topic to a specific viewpoint, time period, location, etc.

5) Rephrase your topic as a focused question. For example, take "street art in the 1980s" and rephrase it as "How did 1980s American street art influence modern art movements?"

6) List out what type of sources you will need for the research topic and where you can find those sources (do you need newspapers or journal articles, interviews or archival materials?, etc.).

That should get you started, and if you need any help, reach out to your professor or librarian!
