The main differences between a popular and scholarly source is who it is written for and the content. A popular sources is written for a general audience and is meant to be entertaining. A scholarly source is written for a professional audience and reports on original research that has been done. Figuring out who the source is written for is the first step in figuring out if it is popular or scholarly.
